| Dr. Polona Pičman Štefančič is the author of recently published book E-democracy and co-author of the Prelude to Democracy: Civil Society and Freedom of Public Communication; her work also includes numerous articles, essays, and chapters on civil society, lobbying and e-government. She holds Doctorate of Science from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Law. From 2004 to 2007, she was a Research Associate at the Faculty of Law and Fulbright Visiting Researcher at the Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law. Prior to gaining her Masters degree in Theory of law and state studies, she received BA magna cum laude from the Faculty of Law. In addition, she also holds a BA from Music Academy for the position of Classical Flautist and Professor of Flute. In 2000 - 2003, she was employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Higher Court of Justice. After passing the Bar Exam, she was appointed to the position of Managing Director of Rea IT, where she established (and is currently managing) the Research Center. She has won several awards for her research work, among others the Prešern Award from University of Ljubljana and the Award of Slovenian Government Public Relations and Media Office for best research on European integration. Her research interests include legal regulation of e-elections and e-voting, e-government, and e-democracy. Her research also focuses on examining the background, emergence, development, use, significance and ramification of civil society, the role of interest groups in different political systems, the functioning of the rule of law and democratic government.
